FAQ

Here is a list of frequently asked questions I hear all the time that may help you better understand your vehicle. Please understand these questions are answered from my opinion and knowledge of 19 years, and they may vary from others' opinions.

Q: What can I do to help fuel mileage?

A: Properly inflated tires, tune up, fuel and air filters, injector pressure flushes and engine decarbons, proper weight clean engine oil and in most cases slow down a few mph.

Q: How often should I rotate my tires and change my oil?

A: Manufacturers vary but a good general rule of thumb is every 5 months or 5,000 miles on both.

Q: My car manual says 100k on almost every service is this true?

A: In non severe conditions yes. Almost all of our driving is considered severe in the Triangle. I see plugs all the time with 100k on them but your car is not running as efficient with them.

Q: Why do shops push snake oils on me when they don't help?

A: 1st off our shop don't push any parts or products. We do recommend BG products as a good preventative maintence, and I have seen cars come in that were told they needed a head and 1 bottle of BG injection cleaner made it purr again. There are cases when they are very important and can save you $$$.

Q: Should I run Synthetic fluids?

A: You should run what the manufacturer of your car recommends. Synthetics are better and in high performance applications they are great. For every day driving on normal vehicles I would put the money towards $4 a gal. fuel.

Q: Why should I spend money on my car when it's running ok?

A: The biggest mistake made when owning a vehicle is not keeping up with the services. I have replaced engines in new cars with under 30k miles because the oil was never changed. It is a lot cheaper to keep up your car regularly than to let it slip up on you all at once, or to have to replace it with another vehicle.

Q: When buying a car how do I know I am getting a good one?

A: Ask the seller to let your (not his) mechanic check out the car. Then bring it to an ASE certified, licensed shop and have it checked out. These normally run 1 hour labor and they are worth their weight in gold. If the seller refuses simply walk away and look elsewhere.
